TangBand 1320 projects

The cone of this driver is made of bamboo fibers. It’s a very nice driver and well made. I have been enjoying them on open baffles (on top of H-frames for bass support) lately. They sound great if you like a darker sound. I prefer these with tweeters but they have an extended treble response that’s muted and soft. Overall, one of my favorite drivers. In a small ported box it sounds like a a good two way speaker. Occasionally I feel the driver has a mechanical sound that separates it from the best drivers I’ve heard.

  1. Hey that’s a fun looking speaker build. I was wondering if you had any additional details about it? Port size? Tweeter? Any crossover? I’m sure I can guesstimate most of it but any help is appreciated.

    • Jeremy, if I remember correctly, this is an 5.5L box tuned to 85Hz. So the port would be approximately 2” x 4.5”. I tried bumping up the bass response to give the impression of a larger speaker. Nothing is perfect but this speaker had a warm sound. The tweeter was a piezo firing out the back. The crossover was simple, the full range driver played without any crossover. The tweeter simply had a 1uf or 1.5uf capacitor which I tuned by ear. The tweeter would only play frequencies above approximately 10kHz and its purpose was to add a bit of air to the sound of just the full range driver on its own. TB makes great drivers and the Bamboo is very nice.
